Persistent Prayer Parable
“Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart” Luke 18:1 (NAS)
In the following verses, Luke 18:2-7, Jesus tells a parable about a widow who repeatedly appears before the same unjust judge pleading for justice from an adversary. The judge eventually grants her request due to her persistence in asking. In prayer, we can choose the widow’s same attributes and behavior, bringing our needs before God with patience, stamina, desire, and determination. He exhorts us to not cease in praying for that which He has given us to appeal, until we receive a full answer to our prayer. Do not give up, be discouraged, nor lose heart, while waiting for the desired outcome. God is sovereign, eternal, and controls the historical timing of events. God is never in a hurry or surprised by our circumstance. He hears our prayers according to Psalm 55:16-19a, NLT, “But I will call on God and the Lord will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night, I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. He ransoms me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, though many still oppose me. God, who has ruled forever, will hear me...” Let us pray together…
Eternal Father God, we are in awe of Your eternal nature, that You encompass all of eternity! We humbly approach Your glorious presence with deep reverent adoration. You alone are worthy of our worship and praise. Thank You for hearing our pleas for ourselves and for others as we intercede on their behalf. We confess our weakness for giving up in prayer before they are answered. Forgive us of our inconsistent prayer. We ask for Your strength, hope and steadfastness in prayer. We ask for patience in the face of our present difficulties and problems. Thank You that we do not have to face them alone, that we can lean on and rely upon You because You are All-Knowing! To the glory of God, In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
